Barton-Coe-Vilamaa designed St. Mark Memorial Park’s masterplan consisting primarily of poured concrete walks that lead visitors through a series of seating areas, ornamental landscaping, and small outdoor activity spaces. The design highlights a small fountain located near the park’s Washington Street pedestrian entrance. The fountain harkens backs to the days when the old town pump, which was located near this very site, encouraged impromptu meetings between members of the community. Inscribed memorial bricks compose the floor of another prominent feature, the gazebo. This structure is primarily used by students waiting for the school bus and by individuals enjoying a shaded lunch in the park. As a fixture for the town of St Joe, small groups and individuals use St. Mark Memorial Park as a meditative and relaxing space.
